The Future Gallery is proud to present Cosmic Collage an exhibition of new collages, drawings, prints, and posters by emerging artists: Thomas Bernard, Juan Cisneros, and Jefferson Mayday Mayday. All artists have their own unique way of assembling everyday materials to create new compositions. They all approach the concept of collage from distinct points; however, their end products exude a resonance of familiarity, a sort of uncanny cohesiveness.

Cisneros creates symbols in an attempt to fashion a new code or language that he further intermingles with borrowed and remixed imagery. Mayday uses a color copy machine to weave portions of old posters and record covers into elaborate and often fantastical abstract worlds. Bernard reorganizes cutouts of magazines to generate symmetrical patterns and unimaginable animal-like forms.

These artists’ layered collage work is not only a build-up of imagery, but a sedimentation of meanings and associations. Hidden worlds and narratives are embedded and covered over, nevertheless present in their complex creations.
